Four Dimensions Update 5: EWI
Brian Smithers is a saxophonist comfortable in legit, jazz and popular styles, an EWI-ist, arranger, author and music technologist extraordinaire. He will be playing the EWI for the April 21, 2012 “Symphony in HD” premiere of “Four Dimensions” with the Orlando Philharmonic. In this video, Brian demonstrates the EWI for us.
Brian is a fellow Full Sail University employee, as is Marc Pinsky. Along with teaching Digital Audio Theory classes, Brian is the Department Chair of Workstations courses in the school’s flagship Recording Arts degree programs. If that wasn’t enough, he is also finishing up a music degree from nearby University of Central Florida. His recital, on saxophone, will feature a great deal of contemporary classical music, and will be presented on April 16th. On the 20th, the night of the rehearsal of “Four Dimensions”, Brian will be conducting an orchestra at UCF. A busy man!
“Four Dimensions” is a multimedia work for Orchestra, EWI, and surround electronics. Artist Nathan Selikoff is designing the multimedia – employing the 48’x14′ foot BarcoLED Video Wall in the performance space at the Full Sail Live Venue at Full Sail University. Marc Pinsky, Max Engineer, is designing a method for the surround electronics that I’ve composed to synch with the live orchestra through the use of a Wii mote baton and Max6 software.
